| Not as great an improvement as I'd expectedMy husband has a Kindle which is 18 months old, and I was pretty impressed with it overall, so I was expecting great things from this latest version. The new version is smaller and lighter, which was a good beginning. Unfortunately I am disappointed with certain aspects of the product.
When I unpacked my Kindle, unlike other reviewers, it didn't recognise me at all. I had to go and log in to my wireless network before it recognised me. OK, I could live with that.
This latest Kindle is only available in a dull grey colour. This may be a factor in my main complaint. I was really looking forward to seeing the 50% better contrast. I just can't see it. The screen looks absolutely no different to that on my husband's 18 month old white Kindle. He can't see the difference either. The screen just looks dingy to us. I have good close vision, maybe better than most, and I don't wear glasses (he does). We are both wondering if the white surround of his Kindle somehow makes his screen look better.
When you turn a page, it goes black for a brief period. This happens on both our Kindles, but it's much more obvious on mine. I've no idea why. I just know it is beginning to annoy me intensely - I'm a very fast reader, and I turn pages very quickly. Other reviewers have mentioned that this seems to happen on all types of e-reader, so it appears to be a problem that is not going to go away until the technology is more advanced.
Overall it is a good product and I don't think I will regret buying it, but I do think I will use it less than I had envisaged before it arrived. I had planned to use it for all my future reading, but now I think I will only use it when I am travelling - the rest of the time I will continue to read actual books.

| DisappointedI am very disappointed. i received my first one Saturday, September 4. It was great and i downloaded some books. By the afternoon it had developed the irritating habit of flicking negative/positive when i turned the page. That is, the background turned black and the words white. This is very irritating. i contacted support who eventually gave up and asked me to return it. I have just received the replacement. This one has the annoying characteristic immediately. I don't know if it is a batch issue or a design fault but as far as i am concerned this renders the kindle unusable. I cannot wait around another day to return this one so i will write the money off. But i will not be downloading any books to it. Nor can i recommend it. Own goal by Amazon here. 0-1 to apple.

Nice cover and good quality but no easy left hand useMy Kindle case arrived two days before my kindle. Putting the kindle into the case was reasonably easy, using the supplied instructions.
The case really needs to be judged with the kindle in it, that's its purpose and any assessment really needs to ask how well it functions. To say it fit's the kindle like a glove is an obvious metaphor but it does look completely at home once attached. It also does not bulge in any way, so the elastic fits well but does not strain - I don't see why this should not last for a considerably long time.
The quality is indeed very good, whether it's worth the money is a personal question, many here think it is overpriced, I like it and I'm satisfied it's a good buy, so I suppose in those terms it is worth it.
If you are right handed then the kindle in it's case not only feels and acts almost like a leather bound book, it can be held as a book in the palm of the right hand with the right hand lower corner resting against the heel of the right thumb. The left hand cover is best held open with the left hand. Pages can easily be turned using the right thumb to operate the forward page turn button. It feels natural and it operates well.
However if you are left handed this operation is no where near as easy. The weight of the kindle is on your right hand and the bottom age and left cover make it nowhere near as pleasant to operate the page turn buttons on the left side of the kindle. In effect left handed people will find it easier to operate in the right handed fashion - which defeats the whole object of putting buttons on both sides of the kindle.
So a very good cover - if you are right handed. For left handers, it might have been better to have a 'notebook' opening with the hinge at the top, giving access to the left hand buttons
I've given it 4 stars, if I were left handed that might easily come down to three or even fewer. No matter how good the quality of construction what matters is the quality of use.

Sandisk 16gb SDHCBought this about three weeks ago. The card arrived within 3-days.
I am using it in a canon eos 550d and it great, at 8mp setting it let me take over 3,500 pictures. No more having to change the card. I have also used it in a Toshiba Camileo , again it worked really well. Great speed and real value for money compared with the 8gb card
