Pretty good reallyAfter 20 plus years with PCs, I took the plunge and migrated to Mac ... One of the qualms I originally had was migrating all of the office based work from PC to Mac. I did try iWorks 09 as a trial, but did not really like it, not business focused enough for me.
Having read the variable reviews for Office for Mac 2008 I was a little unsure as to going down the MS route and was finally persuaded by the offer of a free upgrade to 2011 later this year.
Install was easy, it did the normal upgrade search and basically downloaded a later version, but all in all I guess install took 30 minutes (and that included picking up my mail account settings from Apple's Mail program.
The one area that I was worried about was Entourage, I had heard that it was not very good, but after sussing out how to import my mail items from Mail and the contacts from Address book (Export as VCards from Address book ... save to Desktop ... open Entourage and the Address Book tab & drag and drop) ... all was OK, There doesn't appear to a way to import from iCal into Entourage, but as I had only flirted with iCal it wasn't a problem to me.
I moved from PC based Office 2003 so the interfaces were all pretty new to me but took no time at all to get up to speed. All of the usual suspects are there, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and so far, everything that I've imported from my PC works fine.
I'm pretty happy so far, no glitches, freezes, or lack of functionality (having said that, I never really used many of the more advanced features of the above programs).
For the price, the impending upgrade, and the hassle free start I would happily recommend Office 2008 for Mac. NB, I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm using the latest Mac OS and all updates are installed. Read more...
