| Easy to use, effectiveI'm a fairly experienced user of both Dreamweaver and Frontpage - arguably the titans of whatyourseeiswhatyouget web design software - and WebSite X5, despite its uninspired name, was a pleasant surprise. Easy enough for a beginner to use by following the detailed steps (supplemented by an comprehensive printed manual - something of a rarity these days) yet sophisticated enough for more advanced users to express themselves. It's scaleable to one's abilities in a way that Dreamweaver, with its baffling array of toolbars and nested menus, and Frontpage, with its general uselessness can't match.
It's an all in one package that obviates the need for external programs like image editors by including its own, albeit limited, options. I've made a few testable sites in the software and they are all acceptable in both functionality and appearance, all with a minimum of effort on my part. The next step will be to see if the e-store making functionality is up to par, though by all reports it works fine.
Anyway, this is what I'd recommend to someone who wants to dabble in webdesign without breaking the bank on Dreamweaver or settling for something more limited.

| Very very poor service and unbearably complicated software1. I am not an IT idiot and I already have several websites, but CS5 is unbearably complicated. After a few days of struggling I called in my computer consultant (who uses an earlier version of Dreamweaver) and his reaction was 'my impression is that a lot of people think that Adobe have fallen over with CS5 - it is unnecessarily complicated to learn and not at all user friendly. Don't try'. He recommended an earlier version.
2. Several people have complained about the problems with getting a serial number for the student/teacher edition. I work in higher education and supplied Adobe with a copy of my authentication. They lost it. I resubmitted it on line. They wouldn't recognise the purchase number. I went on the live interactive helpline. The first person was gave me incorrect information about where to go. The second gave me the right webpage (hurrah!) but that wouldn't accept my details. I submitted my case via the Adobe webpage. They responded telling me what I already knew. Their penultimate reply (I had gone back three times) is a classic, telling me that I am allowed to submit proof if identity; I knew that when I started. (It would appear that Amazon staff are paid for the number of support enquiries they answer, not for answering the question.) Only when I told them I was leaving negative feedback on Amazon did they rapidly find my case and emailed a serial number. All this has taken hours of my time.
4. There are plenty of alternatives to Dreamweaver and I may be going back to my previous software if CS5 continues to prove to be wasting my time.

| Superb!I've only been using DW for a couple of months now, having switched from NetObjects Fusion, and I'm absolutely delighted that I made the move. While it might not be as easy as some products to get a first website up and running, the results are great and you really feel like you're in control whereas with lesser products you feel you're trying to coerce them into doing what you want.
If you're not up to creating superb websites with fancy navigation from scratch (and I'm not) there are many templates and 'widgets' you can buy to get up and going quickly. I found that one of the very basic templates that came with DW did exactly what I wanted so I haven't needed to buy any 3rd party add-ons yet.
I'm running on Windows XP SP3 so I'm not having any of the crashes or 64-bit issues reported by other reviewers.
As a new user, I can't say if it's worth the upgrade from CS4. But I can say that DW CS5 is a superb product and I'd recommend it to anyone. You'll need more HTML and CSS knowledge than with products which hide these from you, so buy a couple of books to help you.
I wish DW wasn't so expensive. I tried to buy it online in US dollars, but Adobe won't allow anyone outside the US to do that. In the end I bought a box copy from Amazon.co.uk which was the best price I could find. I think I'd describe nearly £400 as "fair value" rather than "good value".
