What a performance!Just upgraded to a HD camcorder and my existing editing software wasn't good enough. Found Studio 14 and it seemed to have the features I wanted.
I tried the 14 day trial download.
Took ages to download (1.6gb) Then when double clicking the download to install, it hung up and killed the computer. Restarted. Tried the right click 'open' same thing.. another reboot. Tried to get onto customer support on line.. Had to go through a whole production of registering.. Then still couldn't register as it wouldn't accept United Kingdom as a valid country!!!
Phoned their customer support. Naturally it was all my fault. And the computer's fault, and everything else's fault. (I should point out at this stage that we are a software design and publishing company!!)
Finally managed to get it installed.
Everything progressed incredibly sloooooooowly. Getting the import window up was over a minute. It then selected what it thought were 'scenes' another five minutes. Finally clicked play to preview the film.. The sound played splendidly.. Unfortunately the vision was still easing it's way out of the starting gate.
Things did not improve.
This is not user friendly software.
I have now uninstalled the trial.. The search goes on for something simple.

| I just did not get on with thisMy Dad has been editing home movies for quite a few years and, once I entered the digital age, I bought the same software that he uses; Pinnacle Studio (various versions). Admittedly I sat down at a PC with my Dad and he gave me a brief overview about how to edit and burn creations, but I very quickly picked up how to use the software and, even on that first demonstration, was able to show my Dad a few things that I intuitively picked up. In essence, I found the Pinnacle software was very easy to use and something that I could use to produce videos fairly easily. I was therefore very interested to see how I would get on with alternative software and whether this would be better.
To start with, the Corel software seemed to install quickly and without any problems (I am on Windows 7 and a new PC with loads more capacity than needed by the software). As soon as I had completed the installation, I was prompted to download some updates (sequentially, rather than all at the same time, which meant I wasted some time); then I started to produce my first video. The system crashed, so I rebooted and tried again; this time all seemed fine. With a little bit of trial and error, I managed to produce a 15 minute film in around two hours, so all seemed well. Then I tried to burn the film to a DVD, which failed several times but was successful on about the sixth attempt. No idea why the first attempts failed as I changed nothing but I was happy enough to eventually have a film that played.
I went back to the software the following day to do some more editing, only to have a host of problems materialise. I was prompted to download another update, but all sorts of error messages appeared and, as I am not technically computer literate (I know how to use one but haven't a clue what to do when error messages come up, other than to hit `ignore', `retry' or, as a last resort, `exit'), the update failed to install. I was unable to resolve whatever problem exists, even though I spent the best part of two days trying, rebooting countless times (I may not know what I am doing, but I am happy to persevere). The software still seems to work, so maybe the update wasn't critical, but I wonder whether I have just not come up against whatever glitch the update was supposed to fix as yet.
In a nutshell, I did not find the software as intuitive to use as Pinnacle Studio. The quality of the finished film was okay, although I do not think it was as good a quality as I have achieved with Pinnacle (although I would have to produce the same project again using Pinnacle to be certain). But I am concerned about the failures to burn DVDs and the inability to download the more recent updates. Having previously lost a 90 minute film after many days spent editing, I am not sure that I want to take any more chances with this software, only to find that longer projects won't burn to disc. I have been happily editing videos for five or six years, but the Corel software does not work for me and I am going swiftly back to Pinnacle Studio.
